Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Service Learning

It is no exaggeration to say that the last two years have been challenging generally for all of society, and specifically for schools. The events of the pandemic have left no illusions about inequalities and imbalances that exist in our world. Given this context, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are more relevant and urgent than ever. The students in our schools today will need to play a role in ensuring we are on a path to tackling these important goals. A key part of this is having them know they are part of the solution and are of service. As librarians how do we do our part to bring the SDGs into the heart of the school and provide opportunities for students to serve and orient their lives to service?

The 21CLHK Library Mini Conference is a professional learning experience designed online but we are also building in optional face to face connections at “Hubs” where getting together is safe and practicable.

All registrants for the Library Mini-Conference will also get a full pass to the 21CLHK Online Conference. So in addition to a day and half of the curated content for librarians, you’ll also get access to all two weeks of content. 150 sessions with a specific library strand.

How can libraries support embedding the SDGs?
How do the themes in the SDG’s express themselves in different school contexts? How should the library respond?
How can libraries support development of service-learning programs in K-12 schools.

Schedule

This year we are running the event over three three hour blocks. This will result in the same number of professional learning hours, but allow for greater participation from more areas of the world.

Participants heard from a number of guest speakers during the course of the mini-conference as well as had the opportunity to hear from a number of teacher librarians
